A conveyor belt’s thickness is the carcass (plies plus skim rubber between them) plus the top and bottom covers. Its weight per square metre follows from the same build. Both matter for ordering: weight decides lifting and transport, thickness decides roll diameter and the smallest pulley.
The chart below is computed from our catalogue, so every figure matches the datasheet of the same belt.

How to work out belt weight and roll weight
- Carcass thickness ≈ plies × ply gauge + about 0.4 mm of skim between each pair of plies.
- Total thickness = carcass + top cover + bottom cover.
- Belt weight per m² ≈ plies × ply weight + about 1.12 kg for every millimetre of cover rubber.
- Roll weight = width (m) × length (m) × belt weight (kg/m²). Example: 1.0 m × 200 m × 15.2 kg/m² ≈ 3,040 kg.
Roll weight and diameter calculator Every belt’s thickness and weight
Roll diameter
Roll diameter grows with the square root of length × thickness. A long, thick belt can exceed what a truck or door allows, in which case it is supplied in two or more rolls and jointed on site. The roll calculator gives the diameter for your length.
Questions
How much does a conveyor belt weigh per metre?
Multiply the belt weight per m² by the width. An EP 630/4 6+2 belt weighs about 15 kg/m², so a 1000 mm wide belt weighs about 15 kg per running metre.
How thick is a 4 ply conveyor belt?
It depends on the fabric strength and covers. A 630/4 belt with 6+2 mm covers is about 14 mm thick; with 4+2 mm covers about 12 mm.
