A 3 ply conveyor belt has 3 layers of woven fabric in its carcass, bonded with skim rubber between the top and bottom covers. The rating is plies × the strength of each ply, so 3 plies build 250, 315, 400, 500 and 630 kN/m belts.
Fewer plies make a lighter, more flexible belt that bends round smaller pulleys and troughs deeply: 3 ply belts suit most general plant conveyors, crushers and loaders.
